New Yokk, June 3." The State Commissioner of Health at Albany. (New York State) reports that out of 154 samples of Chicago canned meats sold under the new National Pure Food Law and tested by officers of the Department 13 contained boron preservative,' while many contained bristles, hair, skin, and glands. Moreover, cereals were used to make weight.

Boron is an element contained in borax, and consists of dark-coloured and brilliant crystals, and sometimes a dark-brown powder.
