Pekin, June 3. The Imperial troops have met and defeated the rebels between Amoy and Swatow. In the battle 700 of the rebels were killed.
1.-. Two thousand Chinese troops, drilled in European fashion, have reached Swatow.
| The rebellion has taken place on I account of the failure of the local ; officials to distribute food in the famine-stricken districts.
S The British and American Eastern jfleets are concentrating at Pakhoi and other ports in Southern China to protect the Europeans in the event of the trouble spreading.
A previous cablegram said that the rebel army was well led and consisted of 30,000 men. , .
