COTTAGE BURNED AT ORMOND •THE EXCITEMENT OF RATCATCHING. , i . [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Gisboene, Monday. :■ A EOtm-BOOMED cottage at Ormond, owned and occupied by Mrs. Hird, was destroyed by fire last night. Mrs. Hird was engaged in the excitement of a* rat-catching expedition, when she inadvertently upset a kerosene lamp, which set the house in flames. " The building was insured for £100 in the Phoenix office, and the furniture for a like amount, while there was £25 on the piano. OUTBREAK AT CHRISTCHURCH. [BY telegraph.-—press association.] Christchurch, Monday. t | A fire occurred to-day in the shop of Mr. Biggins, hairdresser, Victoria-street, over which the Anglers' Club has rooms. The back of the premises was gutted, and the stairs leading up to the Anglers' Club were burned away. The rooms themselves were scorched and the goods destroyed. HOUSE DESTROYED AT TNVER- :':..; - CARGILL. [by TELEGRAPH. ASSOCIATION.] • Invercargill, Monday. A new five-roomed house, owned and occupied by Robert Irwin, was destroyed by fire on Sunday evening. The house was insured for £250 and the furniture for £100, both in the New Zealand office. FIRE AT NELSON. , . [BY TELEGRAPn.— ASSOCIATION.] Nelson, Monday. A house on Waimea Road, belonging to Mr. Noel Bray, was destroyed by fire today. The insurances were £150 on the house and £50 on the furniture, both in the Norwich Union office.
