PRESENTATION TO MAJOR BROUN.

A number of citizens interested in the importation of fruit and produce met at the Harbour Board buildings cm Saturday mornling, for the purpose of recognising the services rendered by Major Thos. Broun, late Government entomologist and chief inspector of fruit. Major Broun was presented J with the following address: —

I To Major T. Broun, late of lI.M. 35th Kegi- ; merit, Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society. Dear sir,—We, the undersigned Auckland citizens, who are interested in the importation of fruit and produce, regret to 'hear of your retirement from the posithlns of Government entomologist and chief fruit inspector at Auckland, which positions you have held for •the last 13 years, and we feel that we cannot permit the occasion of your severance from the Agricultural Department to pass without expressing our appreciation of the courteous, efficient, impartial, and honourable manner in which you have always carried out the duties of your office. Especially do we recognise the zeal and courage you have invariably shown in upholding what you considered right and just. We wish you every success In your future career, and hope that you have yet a long life of usefulness before you. ' Mr. A. Toomah made the presentation in felicitous terms, anil Messrs; G. Kronfeld, James Donald, E. A. Perkins, J. B. Birch, and a number of others, also spoke. , The testimonial, which is artistically engrossed and illuminated by Mr. W. Gulliver, contains the signatures of Messrs. W. E. Mousey, M.H.R., P. E. Baume, M.H.R., J. Bollard, M.H.R., Hon. E. Mitchelson, A. B. J. Irvine, Pond, and Cheeseman; and all the importers of fruit and representatives of the local fruitgrowers. ■...■.,'
