AUCKLAND CRITICISED.
. BY A WELLINGTON VISITOR. [BY TELEGRAPH.— CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Monday. A Wellington resident, who has just'returned from Auckland after having an opportunity of peeping into the back yards of the " Queen City," tells a -Post representative that the sanitation arrangements prior to the recent manifestation of plague, were very bad. Even Christchurch, where the connections with the main sewer were -not plentiful, was a paradise compared with Auckland; declares this critic. . * In a vacant section in a street in the heart of the city, parallel with Queen-street, there was an accumulation of garbage, and its appearance suggested that it had taken years to make it. ' ''. .* However, the re-appearance of plague had, he added, roused the authorities, and vigorous cleansing operations were in progress. ' " ' . '■■;■
