THE WINNING FACTORIES.

Keen interest has been taken in the competition for the special prizes for cheese donated by the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral; Society, in conjunction with shipping companies and 1 other supporters. ;: This year the competition was open to Canterbury, I Otago, and Southland. Prizes were awarded to the makers whose factories' output for the season gains the highest aggregate number of points, according ,to a certificate ! issued by Government graders from November 1, 1907, to March 31, 1907. ; The rresult of this ~-■: year's competition is; as 'under (maximum \ points ;t 100): — Waikouaiti dairy factory, 90.99 points, £15, 1; Aparima dairy factory, 90.95 points, £10, 2; Gore dairy factory, 90.56 points, £7, 3; Mataura dairy factory, 90.54 points, £3, 4; Tuturau dairy factory and Edendale dairy factory, 90.20 points (equal), £3, 5.
The conditions in the butter competition were very similar to those in the class for cheese. ■~- This year the competition was open to any factory in New Zealand. The result is as under (maximum points 100): — Makerawa dairy factory, Inglewood, 98.02 points, £15, 1; Moa Farmers' dairy factory, Inglewood, 93.55 points, £10, 2; Norsewood dairy factory, 93.40 _ points, £7, 3; Canterbury Central dairy factory, 92.42 points* £5, 4; South Canterbury dairy factory, 92.21 points, £3, 5; Pihama dairy factory, Opunake, 91.27 points, 6.
