.The New South Wales Government recently imported from Hollo way Gaol. London, "12 executioners' ropes, 30ft long." iOn arrival the goods were "stuck up"' by the Customs authorities, under section 52 of the Customs Act, which declares prisonmado goods to be prohibited. ,It is unlikely that the ropes . were actually . made in gaol, but the onus of proof was thrown on the importer. The question arose what was to become of the ropes, and would the State Government _bo fined for importing them in contravention of the Act? . ;
