At the Water Police Court, Sydney, on May 17, Julian Emil Willimoff was charged with converting to his own, use a violin, valued at £100, the property of Francis Robert Peel. The violin, which was;said to be a genuine Amati, was given to the accused by Francis Robert Peel to sell on commission. Archibald Nugent Robertson, a barrister, residing in Elizabethstreet, stated , that Willimoff called on him one. day towards the end of February. He had known him 15 years previously. Accused stated that he had the offer of a 38 weeks' engagement at, £5 per week. He had to leave that night but could not unless the witness would purchase a violin from him,,- For some time witness refused ; but eventually said he would chance it. Willimoff said he hadn't the violin—that he hod pawned it for £3. Witness agreed to give him £5, which he did by open cheque, telling Willimoff at the same time that he could have it : back. at - the same price if he got on. Witness had had a new neck put on the violin. Peel identified the violin as his property, and accused was committed for trial.
A well-known resident of Tanja, in the Bega district, New South Wales, named David Sorcombe, was killed the other afternoon., He was returning home from a drive with his wife. After entering the gate, one of the buggy reins, got under one lof the horses', tails, causing them to bolt down a steep hill. Mr. Sercombe was thrown out, his head striking a post. Death was instantaneous. Mrs. Serconibo was .also thrown out, but was uninjured
