INHABITANTS IN FLIGHT.

London - April 4. A violent earthquake is reported to have occurred at Villafranca, in the Azores, and in consequence the wealthy inhabitants are leaving the island.

Villafranca do Campo is the port of Sao Miguel Island, in the Azores Group. It was at one time the capital of the island, hut in 1522 the town was completely overwhelmed in an eruption of mud. The present population is about 8000.
