Woods and Robinson getting 22 and 2* respectively, and Richards 10. The Grafton men showed decided improvement in the field, and D. Hay, with the ball, captured seven wickets. Ho changed his pace a good deal, and the Ponsonby men were often beaten by the pace of the ball from both lie and Slomau. Kallender also bowled well. , The wicket was fairly fast, but occasionally the 'ball kicked. Grafton opened their innings with Kallender and Foreter. i The latter skied a ball from Gavin that kicked, and lost his wicket. Masov ' joined Kallender, who, however, when going well, mishit one from Woods, and was caught at cover. D. Hay and Mason then became associated, the former putting on 30 in very attractive s*tylo before be got his leg in front to Gavin. Horspool, after hitting two boundaries, touched one that Robinson .accepted, and when stumps •were drawn Jones and Mason were together, with the score at 130, or 40 to the good. Mason, for the most part, played quietly. He gave one chance at 40, but otherwise his innings was faultless. He made some nice _ drives past cover, and some well-timed leg hit*.
