CYCLONE AT COCKTOWN.
MANY HOUSES DAMAGED.
SOME COMPLETELY DEMOLISHED.
TELEGRAPHS AND RAILWAYS INTERRUPTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association.— Kris hank, January 21. A milki* telegram has l>een received by the jHistmaster at Palmerville, from the postmaster at C-ooktown, announcing that the latter town has been laid in ruins by,a hurricane. There were numerous accidents, but no fatalities. (Received January 22, 1.7 a.m.) Brisiiank, January 21. The Postal Department advises that the gales experienced at Cooktown last week increased to a cyelt+ne on Saturday night, and did enormous damage. Nearly every building in town was damaged, and numbers are entirely demolished. The post office is unroofed, the country is Hooded, and the wires blown down. The wind is now moderating, but it. is raining heavily.
The cyclone caused great destruction between Emerald and Clermont, and the telegraph lines are down and railway communication interrupted.
