INFLUX OF VISITORS.

LIST OF HOLIDAY ATTRACTIONS.

' ' [BY telegraph.— correspondent.] Christciitjrcii, Sunday. This Christmas season is apparently to justify all the anticipations that have been formed of it, so far as the number of visitors to Christ-church is concerned. Day by day they are flocking into the town by hundreds. The Wellington steamers arriving yesterday morning brought over 1000 excursionists, while the three steamers arriving to-day have a large number on board, and, in addition, the Maheno is expected direct from Sydney this evening. The expresses have been well laden, and by dinner time on Christmas Day the number of visitors in Christchurch will be larger than at any time since the Exhibition was opened. The attractions of the holiday season are many and varied. The final performance of the fire-walkers will be given to-morrow, and the big chess tournament will begin on Boxing Day. - The same day will see also the opening of the intercolonial tournament, for which there are over 1000' entries. A cycling meeting, the cricket match with the English team, , the , Lyttelton regatta, the. Scottish gathering, about which there has been so much dispute, and a great display of fireworks by Pain on New Year's Eve are other attractions. Both theatres ( are, engaged for f the Christmas and' New Year week, and!;there is also a big circus, so that with the various attractions at the Exhibitior > visitors should be able to find plenty of amusement by day or night. Extensive preparations are being made for the I military tournament. ~, One thousand volunteers will appear as competitors at this tournament, which, it is claimed, will be the largest and most complete held in the Australasian colonies.
