[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
Wellington, Saturday. ■ The suggestion to bring the International Exhibition orchestra- to Wellington, to enable the local people to enjoy some of the very fine music which apparently has been to a large extent wasted on the desert air of Christchurch, is being vigorously revived by certain Wellington enthusiasts. It is suggested that the latter part of January would be a very suitable time for the proposed visit, as the Besses o' th' Barn band will be performing at the Exhibition then, and it is also expected that the Auckland Orchestral Society will be visiting Christchurch during the end of January to give a series of recitals. It is contended that there is little doubt as to the success that would attend such a visit to Wellington, and so confident of thi6 are some music-loving citizens, and so anxious are they that an opportunity should be afforded the local people to hear Mr. Hill's very fine orchestra, that they are prepared, if necessary, to give the Government a guarantee to make good any loss occasioned by the venture. It is argued that as the orchestra is. being maintained by the general taxpayers of the colony, who will be called upon to pay any financial loss that is sustained as the result of the poor attendances at the Exhibition recitals, it is only right that other centres of the colony should have a chance of hearing this exceptionally good music.
