1 N-VKKrAKoiijL, Tuesday. Thk .Southland A. and P. Show opened today, when the sheep and cattle were judged. The cattle were satisfactory on the whole, but. in some classes showed lack of condition, attributable to the shortage of feed on account- of the dry weather. The show of sheep was pronounced by Northern judges as superior in quality to any oilier show in the colony, particularly in Border Leicesters and Romne.VH. The champion prizes were won as follows:—Bolder Leicester ram, T. L. Baruhill; ewe, MeKerchar Bros. English Leicester ram and ewe, W. J. Johnston. Lincoln ram, J. 1!. Sutton ; ewe, Geo. Sutton. Shropshire Down ram and ewe, B. Sell] Smith. Cheviot, ram and ewe, T. L. Barnhill. Shorthorn bull, 0. Anderson; cow, W. Waddell. Hereford bull aud cow, Jas. Holme.s. Polled Angus bull and cow, W. Officer. Ayrshire bull, J. Campbell; cow, W. Rankin. Jersey bull and cow, F. Hellyer.
