Auckland posses.-es a greater area of good land and workable land than any other province in New Zealand. At the present time Auckland has 6,294,995 acres in occupation, against. Canterbury's 6,779,315 acres, or Otago's 7,606,293: . but whilst the latter two provinces have settled tip nearly every acre of suitable country AuckJanders have occupied only a little more than half of their available area. And whilst- in the South nearly every acre has been brought to its fullest- productiveness under the pre-sent-system of farming, not half the Auckland country in occupation is fully worked, nor will it be' for years to come. Even under these circumstances the average stockcarry capacity of Auckland land in occupation is twice as great- as that of Otago, and considerably higher than that of Canterbury, and as time goes by, and the Northern .'lands are better and more fully worked, this difference in favour of Auckland's productiveness will largely increase.
