la feeding experiments carried on at the. Oregon Experiment Station in 1892 it was found thai it. required 1.2 pounds more of whole wheat and oats to - produce a 'pound in gain of live -weight than it did with ground grain, fed under the same conditions. In many oases the excreta were examined to determine the, amount of. undigested whole wheat present, and it was found that, as much as 50 per cent, passed oft' uuinas-tieated. This condition was mote marked when the grain was fed dry. but at all times there was a very great loss. In repose a, horse should stand without pointing, any of his feet. As. soon as he begins to stand with one foot, in advance of the opposite one he is unbalanced, and sooner or later must go wrong. If cases of this kind are properly attended to at- the nrst indications the trouble will soon lie overcome; but, if allowed to go on until the parts are diseased the treatment becomes prolonged and less certain in its results. -Ninety.nine out of every hundred .eases of lameness in a horse are due id.an unbalanced loot, the result of improper paring of the foot, or a shoe not adapted to the' foot, or the work for which the horse is used. The best food to give foals and yearlings to build up bone and muscle is a mixture-of oats and bran, with some -sweet hay chaffed, and if anything is required to give a little more flesh a small quantity of linseed cake added will balance- the- ration. •
