' ' COMSTOCK UNITED. A NEW REEF INTERSECTED. The secretary of the Comstock United Gold Mining Company (Mr. W. R. Holmes) has been advised by the manager that a new reef has been intersected in the mine. The ore body is about 10ft thick, composed of kindly-looking quartz, and the manager believes it to be the .Sir Walter Scott or Ivanhoe reef. It is running north-east and south-west, and dipping to the west. So far about 15ft have been driven on the new ore body, which has maintained its size, is carrying nice minerals, and is goldbearing. Pint development is, however, necessary to determine its value. MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Victoria (November 1): The country on the hangingwall of No. 1 reef is still of a splendid description for the existence of gold, it being intermixed with numerous quartz and mineral veins. The main reef contains a tittle good mineral on the extreme hangingwall, intermixed with silica, but so fur wo have not- seen any gold here this week. The No. 2 reef east of the crosscut is encased in a good class of sandstone, intermixed with mineral and silica veins. The quartz coming to hand is carrying a little mineral on the hangingwall of the reef. The quartz coming from the Wniolalii reef is about the same as usual, not very heavily mineralised, Magnet (October 31)': The rock in the face of the main crosscut is now easier to bore, and we may at any moment expect to meet more favourable country and reefs. The present, company has driven 54ft in all in exceptionally light rock.
