PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.

[from our own correspondent.] The monthly meeting- of the Piako County Connoil was held in Te. Aroha on Wednesday, October 31. Present: Messrs. T. Gavin (county chairman), barney, McCnw, Keeley, Donaldson, McGloin, Thomas, Ring, and Main. A special order, passed at a previous meeting, making a rate of one-sixtieth of a penny in the £, for the purposes of loan in aid of construction of the Cambridge high level bridge, was confirmed. * Messrs. Greenslade and Poland, llll.li.'s, wrote acknowledging communication from the county clerk re the Gordon-Waharoa Road, and stating that they were endeavouring to get a sum of money on the Estimates for metalling. A telegram from Mr. Poland announced that a sum of £200 had been placed on the Supplementary Estimates, this making £400 granted. The clerk of the Waitoa Road Hoard wrote that the Board would contribute half-cost of outlet drain through Buchan's, and that settlers would also contribute. 'lenders were ordered to be called for the work. The resolution passed at a previous meeting, merging the Waitoa road district in the county, was confirmed. Mr. Pohlen. Mutamata, presented a petition from the ratepayers in the Mutamata road district praying that the district he merged in the county. It was resolved that the necessary steps he taken to give effect to the petition. The .Mayor of To Aroha, with the town clerk and councillors, waited on the Council with reference to the proposed tratlic bridge. The Mayor said all he asked tor at present was the appointment of a small commitee, to act with a similar committee of the Borough Council, to push on the erection of the bridge. The bridge was now a matter of absolute necessity, and since, owing to the representations of the two local bodies, the Government had placed on the Estimates a vote in aid. it was desirable that united action should be taken at once to secure the completion of the work. The question was discussed at some length, and it was finally decided that a committee of three members of each Council be appointed, with power to engage an engineer to advise as to site, description of bridge, cost, etc., and to report to the councils. The members appointed to represent the county were the chairman (Mr. T. Gavin), and Messrs. Larney and Ring.
