THE COLONY'S REVENUE.
STATEMENT BY THE PREMIER. SIMPLY SPLENDID." [BY TELEGRAPH.— rRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Wednesday. In the course of an interview to-night by a representative of the New Zealand Times the Premier furnished some figures in regard to the colony's revenue. He gave the following details for the six months ended September 30, 1906: — CONSOLIDATED FUND. Ordinary Revenue: £ Customs . ... .. 1,354,073 Stamps _ 563,402 Post and Telegraphs ... „. 61,573 Land tax «.. 4,414Income tax ... ..« ... 10,432 Bter duty... ... ... 45,404 Railways 1,158,169 Registration and other fees ... 64,050 Marine 18,739 Miscellaneous ... ... 105,305 Territorial' Revenue: Cash land sales i... ... ... 16.497 Deferred payment land sales... : 1.210 Pastoral rents, etc. ... ... 79,294 Total. £3,482,569 "This result is simply splendid," remarked the Premier, " and it will, I am sure, be received with gratification throughout the country. The buoyancy of the revenue is, to my mind, marvellous. Eaoh year we think that we have got to the top, only to find that in succeeding months the revenue still keeps on increasing.. If wo go on anything approaching the same results it is quite evident that at the end of the financial year the colony, will again , bo in a highly, satisfactory position to meet the many useful calls that our people require in connection with the public services and undertakings that are so necessary for the- State's development.". The total revenue for the six months onded September 30, 1905, was £3,179,937, the. increase for the six months ended September 30, 1906, being £302,632.
