SCHOOL ATTENDANCE AND BIRTH RATE.

A STRIKING REPORT. By Telegraph.— Association.—Copyright. Sydney, October 10. ,'., The report of the Minister for Education for the last 'year shows that 180 schools were opened in the State, and 203 closed. There was a decline in both metropolitan and country school attendance, which he at-; tributed to the diminished birth-rate. He estimated that for the next four years there would probably. be a continuous decrease, averaging 2300 per annum in the number of the native-born of school ages, but after that time the turning-point would have been reached, the figures pointing to a probable increase of two thousand per annum.
