Details have been received by mail from Shanghai, dated September 18, of the Japanese tariff, -which comes into operation this month. Queensland, under the treaty, is accorded preferential treatment as follows:—Condensed milk' 2d per dozen ; other Australian States, £1 per picul, which equals 1351b; sole, leather, Queensland, lis per picul; other States, £1 8s; other leathers, Queensland, 4s 4d per picul; , other States, 15s 9d. . .', Wines: Queensland, 4d per litre; otSer States, 8d; alcohol, Queensland, Is, per litre other States, Is Ad; blankets, Queensland, 15s per picul ; other States, £3 7s: lead, Queensland, 8d per picul; other States, 9d; . soap, Queensland, 14s. per picul; other States, £2 10s 5d ; soap, washing, Queensland, 2.5; other States, 7s.■;' The Queensland Commissioner has advised that it is most improbable that Japan will entertain the Commonwealth's inclusion in Queensland's privileges without a new treaty, and the entire . immigration question being reopened.
