CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
VA LOVE ; AFFAIR. *, [BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] \ Wellington, Wednesday. The police were called to a house in Brightstreet yesterday afternoon, owing to the behaviour of a, man named William Byrne, aged 26, an ironftioulder by trade. Byrne, it is stated, arrived .from Wellington on .Saturday in connection with a love affair, and it is supposed that his non-success supplies the motive for his subsequent proceedings. He got under the influence of liquor, and threatened; to do away with himself. He commenced operations on his throat with a clasp knife, .and slightly marked himself before his* friends stopped further injury. The police, coming on the scene, Byrne was taken into r custody. He was formerly employed in a foundry at, Auckland. Byrne was brought before Mr. Barton, S.M., this 'morning, .and charged with attempting to commit suicide. Accused said he was under the influence, of liquor, and did not know what he was' doing. He did not intend to commit suicide. Accused was remanded' until the n 17th instant. \ .""'■■•. j
