GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS IN AUCKLAND.
PROPOSED ADDITIONS.
[liT TELEGRAPH.—SPECIAL, CORRESPONDENT.]
Wellington, Monday. In reply to representations made by the Hon. G. Fowlds regarding the inadequate nature of the Government buildings in Auckland, the Minister for Public Works states : —"I have to state that it is> doubtless time now that the projected additions to the Department's buildings in Auckland were put in hand. A site in Albert-street was acquired some time ago, but the matter at that time did not seem to be very pressing. I understand that, owing to the natural increase of work consequent on the growth of population, etc., the rooms in the buildings are now very fully occupied, and in some instances a. little overcrowded. A vote to make a start with the building was taken on last year's appropriations, and a commencement has been made with the plans. The vote will be renewed en the current year's Estimates, and the Government architect has been instructed to have the plans completed as early as possible."
