Duxedix, Thursday. At a meeting of the Trades and Labour Council to-night a. resolution was passed protesting against giving 12 months' leave of absence, oil full pay, to some of the highsalaried men in the council's employ, while at the same time dismissing low wages men in the dead of winter, and pleading that the finances would not permit of their being employed.
At Mosgiel to-night it was decided that tho local Seddon memorial should take the form of a town fireboll and tower, with the late Premier's name cast on the boll.
The matter of compensation to the relatives of tho two employees of the Mil bum Lime and Cemerit Company, who lost their lives by " the inhalation of poisonous fumes, has been amicably settled without recourse to the law courts.
Wellington,' Thursday. The Court of Appeal lias finished the hearing of cases for the present sitting.
Invjsxicargill, Thursday. At the Police Court to-day the healing of the charge of keeping beer for sale against three men is proceeding. The evidence alleged that they obtained 45 gallons in 11 days, and that they had given fake names to (he police.
