CHARGE OF THEFT AND FORGERY.

[BY TELEGRAPH.MIESS ASSOCIATION.] Napier, Thursday. Geo. White, late, secretary of the Starr.Bowketfc Building Society, appeared in Court this morning charged with the theft of £4oa, the funds of the society, and also with forging the name of the Rev. J. C. Martin to two receipts. The hearing of the embezzlement, charge was further postponed for a week, the'investigation into the affairs of the society not yet being complete., It is understood that inquiries to dale disclose a deficiency of upwards of £1000. According to the evidence of Detective Hill, the prisoner when first taxed with the crime denied his guilt, but subsequently admitted forgeries. After taking evidence, White pleaded guilty, and was committed for sentence.
