ANGLO-COLONIAL NOTES.
[from our own correspondent.] London*, May 4. THE COLONIAL CONFERENCE. In the course- of the proceedings at the dinner of the Canada, Club, held in London on Wednesday evening, Lord Elgin, Secretary of State for the Colonies, said that ever since he came into office he had been conducting correspondence to fix the actual date of- the next Colonial Conference. Great Britain put itself at' the disposal .of the colonies in this matter, and there had not been the slightest- unreasonableness manifested by any of the colonies. All the difficulties had been overcome, and if he was still in office he hoped to take part in the next Colonial Conference, to be held in the middle of April next 'year .in London. At that conference they desired to bring about a system which would unite the Empire in bonds of unity, which alone could give the Empire strength. DALGETY AND CO., LTD. I am informed to-day by the secretary of Messrs. DaJgetv and Co. that the directors of that company havd agreed to declare an interim dividend for the half-year ended December 31, 1905, of 3s per share, free of income tax, being at the rate of £6 per cent, per annum. ; THE EXHIBITION. Judging by the number of callers at the London office of the New Zealand Government, who go there to make inquiries with reference to the coming Christchurch Exhibition, great interest in that venture is being taken by British manufacturers. Mr. H. C. Cameron, in whose hands this matter has specially been placed, is literally " lip to his eyes" in it. For the past month, whenever I have called at Victoriastreet there have been at least two people, and often more, waiting to see him in regard to the Exhibition. NEW ZEALAND POULTRY. Walking tnrough Smithfield the other day I heard that the consignment of New Zealand poultry which had been sent through the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company was highly spoken of. The same, however, cannot be said of the recent small shipment of New Zealand apples, which were sent to Covent Garden for report.
