The impression that there is payable mineral in the Kaitake Ranges (Mount Egmont slopes) has led to the formation of a New Plymouth syndicate, with Messrs. D. Laing and Potts as joint authorised agents, to push on with prospecting work. There are already 21 members in the syndicate, and those, responsible for its formation are very hopeful of success. A couple of experienced prospectors have been employed, and, we understand, some promising indications have been found and specimens submitted to the Government geologist. There are indications of several minerals, and time alone, can prove their value. The borough of Napier is assessed at £91,612, as against £88,532 last year, an increase of £3080. Mr. Carnegie will give £2500 for a public library in New Plymouth.
