NO. 8 GARRISON ARTILLERY VOLUNTEERS. Tns members of the No. 8 Company New Zealand Garrison Artillery Volunteers fired the first match for Messrs. Webster Brothers' gold medal .on Saturday afternoon, the conditions being 10 shots at 300 yds and 500 yds. Bombardier Mulholland fired, but not as a competitor. The range prizes (swagger canes) were awarded to Sergeant E. Morgan and Gunners Anderson and Dillon. Appended are the scores: —

The weather conditions were against good shooting, rain falling nearly the whole afternoon. Private J. (.'arisen, who is still shooting in fine form, proved the winner. Private T. Kerr, with 43, and Private J. Carlson, with 40, at 300 yds, and Private Carlsen IS, Private Kerr 42, and Private S. Eowe 41 at 500 yds, were the highest range scorers. The conditions were 10 shots at 300 yds and 10 shots at 500 yds (one sighler not to couut). The following are the scores:—

NO.' 2 NATIVE RIFLES. The members of the No. 2 Native Rifles fired the final stage for a valuable silver cup on Saturday. The conditions were 10 shots ,at 200 yds, 300 yds, and 500 yds ranges. The winner proved to be Corporal Watson, with a fine score of 126. Lieutenant Coutts fired, but not as a competitor. The following are the principal scores: —

GORDON V. NO. 3 NATIVE RIFLES. The Gordon and No. 3 Native Rifles fired a teams' match at Penrose on Saturday. The conditions were seven shots (one optional sighter) at the 300 yds and 500 yds distances, and the teams were of 10 men a-sidc, the first eight to count. The Gordon Rifles won on the aggregate by 40 points. Scores: —

RIFLE MATCH AT CAMBRIDGE. [SI TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ' CAMBRIDGE, Saturday. A triangular shooting match between A (Hamilton), B (l'iako), and D (Cambridge) squadrone ,vas tired here yesterday. The teams were eight men asidc, and tho conditions provided for seven shots at the 500 yds and GOOyds ranges. Great interest was taken in the match, owing to the Cambridge squadron being the winners of the battalion shield at the annual training camp. The weather was bad, with cold, drizzling showers. Three targets were kept going, and marking was very difficult, there being repeated challenges. The Hamilton squadron finished first with 381 points, Piako second with S(j2 points, and Cambridge third with 343 points. The scores are as follow: —

In collective, practice, volley, and independent firing the Piako team scored 110, Hamilton 101, ami Cambridge 8!). The visiting teams were entertained at a ball given by the 11 Squadron.

. SHOOTING MATCH AT PAEROA. , , [BY TELI2UT.Ar.II.— CORRESPONDENT.] PAHnOA, Saturday.: The fourth and final shooting competition for the clock presented by Messrs. Halleustein Brothers was held by the members of the So. 1 Oiiinemmi Rifles this afternoon. The ranges were 200 yds, 500 yds and 600 yds, with seven shots at each range. The highest scorers to-day were as follows:—Corporal Forrest, 30 at'2ooyds, 26 at 500 yds, 24 at 600 yds, (handicap 15), total 05; Corporal Dennerley, 28, 28, and 25 (handicap 7), total 88. The trophy went to the competitor with the highest total in any three matches, anil the winner was Corporal Forrest, with an aggregate for three matches of 285 points. Corporal Dcnnerley was second with 275 points. THE GOVERNMENT MEDAL COMPETITION. [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION-.] ■ . Wellington, Saturday. The following is the result of the competition by the North Island volunteers for the Government prize medals of 1003:— medal for the best shot in the North, Island, Private A. L. Humphries (Turanaki Rifles), 55 points; gold and silver medal for the second best shot in the North Island (name omitted), 53 points; silver medal for the best shot in the Auckland district, Private J. G. Cornea (Ohinemuri Rifles), 51 points; silver medal for the best shot in the Wellington district, Sergeant E. Perrin (Palmerston North Rifles), 52 points.
