HARBOUR BOARD OFFICIALS' SALARIES.

Wellington, Thursday. At a. meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board to-day, a communication was received from th© Shipmasters' Association, enclosing the scale of salaries which it wac suggested should be adopted for the remuneration of harbourmasters, pilots, tug and dredge masters. It was pointed out that other harbour boards were being approached on the subject. The rates of pay proposed for the principal ports were a follows:—Harbourmasters, £500 _ per annum; chief pilots, £350; pilots. £300; lug or died ye masters. £280. The. secretary of the Board explained, that by the system of annual increments now in force the officers in Wellington would by .jaxt year be receiving the - amounts it was suggested thai, they should be paid, except with regard to the jiuiioi of three pilots. It was decided to reply that any complaints of insufficient salaries generally paid to harbourmasters and pilots did not apply to Wellington.
