NelsoNj Thursday. A boy named Watson, aged eight years, son of Captain Watson, of the steamer Lady Barkley, was discharging fireworks yesterday, when an explosion singed his eyelashes and burnt his face badly. At present he cannot see, but permanent loss of the sight is not expected., New Plymouth, Thursday. In the Police Court this morning a man named Cyrus Wilson, alias Rex, was committed for trial on a, charge of stealing from a, dwelling. The petroleum boring operations are being followed with keen interest. Operations' have now extended to a depth of about 1750 feet, and the manager is verysanguine that oil will be obtained very shortly. • _, & , Wellington; Thursday. The executive of the Master Bakers' Association of New Zealand, has nominated Mr. Samuel Brown, of Wellington, and Mr. Win. Scott, of Dunedin, as member t'lid" deputy respectively of the Arbitration Court. _ , TiMARti, Thursday. If, rained all day, and there was only a small attendance for the people's day of the show. The horses were a great feature, and the buck-jumping and hunting competitions created great interest. - The horses for buck-jumping were very wild, and the display was exceptionally good. Christchtjrch, Thursday. The trouble concerning the telegraph poles on Park Terrace, has broken out again. At Monday's meeting of the City Council a petition will be presented from Park Terrace residents, asking the Council to protest against the removal of the poles to the east side of the Terrace, and secure their removal into Hagley Park.
