IMPORTANT CROWN LANDS BALLOT.

An important ballot for Crown lands in various parts of the provincial district of Auckland will be held at the District Lands and Survey Office, Custom-street East, today, commencing at eleven o'clock in the forenoon._ When the lands were thrown open for selection on Wednesday last a total of 450 applications were received for sections, the majority being for the areas opened in the Kawhia and Hokianga. districts. The lands, mainly second-class, are for the most part optional, as far as the tenure is concerned, applicants being permitted to pay ca'feh, to occupy with right of purchase, or to have the land under the lease in perpetuity section of the Lands Act. Some few lots, however, are for lease in perpetuity only.
