CHARGE OF MURDER.

[BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] New Plymouth, Thursday. The trial of Walter Smith on a charge of murder was continued till ten o'clock tonight, when the case for the prosecution closed. The judge and jury were willing to proceed, but counsel for the prisoner (Mr. Weston) refused to open his case after being engaged for twelve hours consecutively. Eventually the jury agreed to adjourn, and were locked up for the night. The case will be resumed to-morrow morning.
