THE VETERANS' HOME.
The Auckland Committee in charge .of th« Veterans' Home movement met in. • the f Mayor's room yesterday. It was announced that additional subscriptions, : amounting ■to',,. over £40, had been'• received, making thfej total £483. In addition to this the com'-) mittee have several sums promised, and;iio| - lists have yet been returned from tho districts surrounding Auckland, or ; the . country' ;,- districts, and it is exoected that a total of ; about £1000 will be reached. The commit-' tee desire that all lists be returned before the j; end of this month. The Mayor has received; a. telegram from His Excellency the Governor tasking for information as to tha amount of the Auckland subscriptions already received, and an estimate of those 'ex-;. pected, in view of a meeting His Excellency ■; has convened for the beginning of next week,' to arrange for the election of a Central Committee, when it will be necessary to estimate; the total money available, so that the pre-' paration of plans of the building may be pro-' ceeded with. * ' -\
