THAMES BOROUGH COUNCIL.
[BV TELEGRAPH, —OWN" CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Thursday. At the fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council this evening, it was resolved that the Council should take advantage of a Government subsidy of £ for £ up to a sum of £225 for repairs to and removal of mining debris from the Waiotahi aqueduct, and at was decided to call tenders at once for the removal of 500 loads of the debris. It was also resolved to make an application to the Government for a grant of money for the cleaning out of the Ki'raka Creek. Amended demands were received from the secretary of the Thames District Hospital Board and the Thames and Coromandel United Charitable Aid Board, in connection with the estimated receipts and expenditure of the said Boards for the year ending if arch 31, 1903. The demand for the Hospital Board stated that the estimated expenditure for the year was £2007 14s Bd, which sum was £1952 14s 8d in excess of the estimated receipts, and of this latter sum £967 's 4d would be required to be raised from the local bodies, as follows:— Thames County, -532 0s 8d ; Thames Borough, £221 7.- lei; Ohincmuri County, £330 2s 6d; Waibi Borough, £92 17s Id. The estimated expenditure for the United District Charitable Aid Board for the ensuing year was £1918 9s, of which amount £869 7s 3d was required from the local bodies, viz.: Thames County, £234 7s 6d; Thames Borough, £156 ss; Obinemuri County. £225 ISs lid; Coromandel County. £187 3s lid; Waihi Borough, £65 10s lid After the town clerk had pointed out that the amended demands amounted to nearly £80 less than the amount first asked for, the Council decided to agree to the same. A committee, consisting of the Mayor (Air. Trembath), and Messrs. Poulgrain, Hetherington, and Burton, was appointed to act conjointly with similar committees than might be set tip by the County Council and Harbour Board, for the purpose of deciding what, steps should be taken for celebrating Coronation Day at the Thame.-. Mr. Burns drew the attention of the Council to the unsatisfactory manner in which the inspection of milk was being carried out locally, and said he considered something should be done to remedy the matter. It was decided to approach the Government, with the view of ascertaining whether an inspector had been appointed under the Dairies Act for the Thames district, and whether it was intended to carry out the full provisions of the. Act.
