[BY telegraph,—press association.] Nelson, Wednesday. Yesterday afternoon, on Brittanic Heights, a boy named Howard Jonas, aged 12, while playing with a blank cartridge, left from the volunteer manoeuvres, struck it with an axe. It exploded and gashed the. right side of his face and throat and right eye, just escaping the jugular vein. He was removed to a private hospital and had his eye taken out.
