THE CHEVIOT EARTHQUAKE.

Wellington, Wednesday. The Postal Department advised a slight shock of earthquake at Cheviot at twentyeight minutes past twelve to-day. The loss to the Cheviot settlers caused by the recent earthquakes does not seem to have aroused much sympathy in Auckland. The Mayor has been appealing to citizens since Monday for subscriptions to the relief fund, but up to last night the subscript tiondist was blank.
