KNOCKED DOWN BY A CYCLIST.
DAMAGES AWARDED.
[BY TELEGRAPH. press ASSOCIATION.]
Dunedin, Wednesday. A case of importance to cyclists came before Mr. Carew, S.M., at Outram to-day. In June last as a man was walking along the road he was struck on the side and knocked down by a cyclist. He has only just been able to resume work, arid he claimed £98 damages from the cyclist who caused the accident.
For the defence it was contended that the cyclist was on the right side, and that it was not obligatory to carry a light. Mr. Carew held that the rule of the road was not applicable in the case of a pedestrian. It was the duty of the cyclist to avoid foot passengers. He gave judgment for £30 and costs.
