SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

MANGERE. At a meeting of the Mangere School Committee, held at the Bridge school on the 14th inst., it was decided to make the school and flower show a two-days' show, instead of one. as had been previously fixed on. It having been pointed out that the original date agreed on for the show, November 21, had been taken up by the Auckland Horticultural Society for their show, the committeo decided to alter the date to December 1 and 2. The secretary was instructed to communicate with a number of persons selected by the committee to act as judges. He was also asked to mako inquiries re expense of band for one afternoon of tho show, and also the cost of a marquee for a refreshment tent, and report at the next meeting, to be held on October 28. Posters and tickets wore ordered to ho got out at once. The chairman laid Inspector Crowe's standard examination reports before the committee, which showed not only a very high percentage of passes, 'out spoke highly of the efficiency, tone, and discipline of the schools. It was remarked that the average age of those who passed the sixth standard at the Mangere school was 12 years and 6 mouths. TE AROHA. A meeting of the school committee was held on Monday night, when there were present: Messrs. Gilchrist (chairman), Lamb, Wallace, Hirst, Stanley, and Hill (secretary). Messrs. Lamb and Stanley were appointed visiting committee for the ensuing month, and it was remitted to them to examine the teacher's house, with a view to requesting tho Hoard to effect some repairs. . The secretary reported that the recent school concert realised £16 9s. after paying all expenses. • Dhe committee expressed great satisfaction with this result, and in consideration of Bio exceptionally unfavourable conditions under whioh tho concert was arranged, the.v passed a cordial vote of thanks to t.lio teaching staff and others who had worked so energetically, particularly Miss Hirst and Mr. and Mrs. Burton. The chairman brought up the matter of giving special pri7.es for school work, and intimated that if the committee gave prizes to the extent of £5, he personally would donate half the cost. This offer was accepted with thanks, tho committee undertaking to be responsible for the balance. Accounts to the amount of £20 9s 7d were passed for payment.—[Te Aroha Correspondent.]
