DIEU ET MON DROIT.
The heart of England bounded, and her liloed Throbbed proudly, as from all the distant coasts, East, West, South, North, rose her own battlecry, "God and my right." For she had flashed abroad From out her island citadel—tho seat Of Empire, and the home of Liberty— Tho warning words, "Beware! My foemen arm!" And straight from India's camps, from the wide plains Of Canada, from far Australia's shores. From fair New Zealand, from the mines and veldts Of Southern Afric, from each port where floats The flag of Britain came the swift response, '!Thy foes are arming! We are arming too! Thy quarrel is our quarrel, and thv foes ' Are ours, as thy free speech and thy just laws. • " Shame on the man who now withholds his aid, "Aye, or his life, when England draws her sword "For Liberty and Eight." -Auckland, 24th October, 1899.
