AUCKLAND SHAHEMAHKET. AS on Thursday there were but two calls at the Exchange yesterday— and noon. Standard stocks were inquired for at the previous day's figures. In mining stock liuranuis wore sought at the morning call at Sid. but holders wanted Bd. Buyers advanced Sd at noon, but no business was done, litay Queens were offered at 3}d, but buyers only went as high as 2d. Buyers offered only for Moanataiaris, when holders asked 6s, and at noon there was a drop of 2d, and sellers came down 3d. Upper Thames stocks were fairly brisk. Talismans were quoted at both calls lis, but sellers held for 11s Bd. There were inquiries for Alphas at 2s —fid less than was asked.

Operations upon Hunt's reef from tile winze sunk below the surface level have now been suspended, in fader to carry on more expeditiously the sinking of a shaft for the purpose of opening up the same reef at a lower level. Prior to knocking off work, however, at the point mentioned, tile reef had become divided into two sections, each of about 20in in thickness, with a " horse" of mullock about 2ft in width running between them, but the ore continued of a very nromisine description. The sinking of Hie sha ft is now being carried on with two shifts per diem, and a (tenth of about. 18ft has been attained below the brace of the windlass. A very favourable class of count rv is hoius penetrated, but a good deal of water is being mot with, which somewhat hinders progress. THAMES SCHOOL OP MINES. [IIY TELEGRAPH.OWX CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Friday. At tile monthly meeting of the School of Mines' Council, this evening, t.he president (Mr. Jas. McGowan, M.H.1!.) nro'idinij, Mr Allen (the director of the School) reported that 13 public assays were made during the month of October.' and sis parcels of ore were treated in the experimental plant, whilst three separate parcels from different parts of the neninsnla had since arrived. A committee was appointed to go into the matter of cost re a new mineral mu=enm. which it is proposed to attach to the School.
