CHARGE AGAINST AN EXCONSTABLE.
[BY TELF.GRAI'n.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ConoMAXim, Friday. At the Commanded Police Court this morning, before Messrs. P. J. Tierney and T.W. Rhodes, J.P.'s, Frederick William Bezar (ex-con-stable) was charged (1) with obtaining £110s bv false pretences, on October ?2, from John Hand, hotel-keoper. Coromandel: (2) with obtaining £1 l?.s bv false pretencs from -lames Rolleston. on Octol>or 18. Mr. talker appeared for the accused, who pleaded guilty and elected to be don't with summarily. Constable I.aw nave A-tails of how the inorier was obtained, accused representing himself as a constable on duly, and be 'lave orders on the inspector for the amounts to be deducted from " his October pav.' 1 Mr. Walker, in asking the Bench io deal as leniently as possible with accused, mentioned that he had honourably s«rvcd as stable for three years. He resigned in March last, and visited Australia. He subsequently returned to New Zealand. Ho came to Coromandel and took to drink, when he committed the offences with which he was charged. The Bench fined accused £10, or one month's imprisonment on each c.haree. A week was allowed in which to pay the fines, a resident going bond for that period. Messrs, Hand and Rolleston have been reimbursed.
