DEVONPORT NAVALS. The monthly inspection of the Devonporb Navals was held last night at the North Shore, where the company is encamped for a fortnight's instruction, and there was an excellent muster of over 60 men, under the command of Lieutenant-Commander Parker and Lieutenants Davis and Thomas. In the absence of Colonel Goring LieutenantCommander Parker inspected the company, Lieutenant-Adjutant rant representing the staff, and Captain Meryon, R.N., of H. M.S. Katoomba, was present and watched the proceedings with much interest, and amongst other things a squad of men was exercised in laying mines in the harbour with the aid of the searchlight, and they carried out their duties very successfully. In fact, the work done by the men whilo in laiiap has been very good, and the company has attained a comparatively high state of efficiency, giving great satisfaction to Captain Powell, of the torpedo service.
