WELLINGTON REGATTA.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Wednesday. As the anniversary approaches, the regatta creates considerable interest among yachtsmen. The greatest interest, of course, centres in the first-class championship race, for which the Mascotte, Waitanid, Maritana, and Mina have been entered. The Waitangi, which left Auckland on Wednesday last, arrived here at half-past one to-day, in charge of Captain Butt. She made an excellent trip down the coast, seeing that she had to contend against adverse winds. The yacht evidently requires more ballast, but will have an excellent chance if the weather is light. As the vessel lay at her moorings, she was greatly admired. The chances of the Mascotte are considered good, should a heavy wind be blowing, and the owners of the Maritana are sparing no pains to prepare their boat for the struggle. In any case, the race promises to be a good one. The competitors in the second class race will be the Pastime, Rona, Isca, Mapu, Mahina, and Atlanta. The last named arrived from Napier to day, and the Pastime leaves Lyttelton to-morrow should the weather be favourable. The Regatta Committee reserve the right of placing a man in each yacht to see that the ballast ia not shifted.
