THE ANNUAL REGATTA.

A meeting of the committee of the Auckland Annual Regatta was held last evening, there being a large attendance. Mr. G. S. Kissling occupied the ch«.«f. Mr. A. H. Nathan stated that he had interviewed the local manager of the Union Company, who had granted the use of the Taviuni as flagship. The tender of Messrs. Wilsons and Hortou was accepted for printing the programmes, and the Artillery Baud was engaged for the flagship. Mr. E. V\. Burgess, the representative of the New Zealand Rowing Association, wrote regarding the rowing races to be held at the regatta, "he letter was received. The race for trading vessels of 40 tons and under is to fcs a sealed handicap, and the vessels are to use only the ordinary working canvas, the course being the same as that for scows. _ The coarse for yachts of '2-ratiog and under is to be from the south side of the flagship, round a. bfcoy off Rough Rock, round a boat off Browns Island, round a boat off Chelsea, finismiiK on the south side of the flagship. J-he secretary was instructed to inform the captains of H.M.S. Ringdove and the t German warship Bussard that the committee would be glad to see crews from their vessels enter for the race for man-of-war boats. The delegates of the various rowing clubs on the committee are to fix the courses for the rowing events, also the time and place for weigh-ing-in the crews. The collectors reported having made a start, and had been fairly successful. Entry night was fixed for Saturday night next, at the Waitemata Hotel, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. The entrance fee is to be 5 per cent, of the amount of the first prize. Certificates of the measurements of yachts an*© to be handed in to Mr. R. S. Reynolds on or before the '26th instant. : A letter was received from the Auckland M aval Volunteers, asking the committee'to reconsider their decision regarding the time as to when compositors in the naval cutter race should have been members of a corps, and after some discussion, it was decided to amend the rule, so as to make men eligible who had joined a corps before December 31, laS At a meeting of the Devonport Torpedo At a meeting of the Devonport Torpedo Corps, held last night, the following crew was selected to row in the race for naval cutters, at the Annual RegattaKeefe, Thorne, Dyer, C. Johnson, H. Slade, D. Slade, Barrett, Morrison, Marshall, J. Parker, Wylie, Joyd. Emergencies: Weir, Williams, Bowden; P.O. Parker, coxswain. Entries for the races in connection with the Auckland Yacht Club oil February 9 and 16, close at half-past one p.m. on Saturday next, at the store of Mr. R. S. Reynolds, Queen-street Wharf. The new yacht, Waitangi, from thu port, arrived at Wellington yesterday afternoon. She is to take part in the regatta at Wellington on the 22nd insifc. Regarding the race in which the Waitangi will be a competitor, a Press Association telegram says : — "The general impression among yachtsmen is that the Lyttelton boat Mascotte will win the yacht race if the breeze is strong, and the Waitangi if it is light."
