ATHLETIC SPORTS.
CRICKET. MIRANDA V. MANGATAWHIRI VALLEY. The return cricket match between the above places eventuated on Saturday last, on Mr. Lyon's paddock, Mangatawhiri Valley, and resulted in a win for the home team by an innings and 19 runs. A pleasing feature of the match was the presence of an unusually arge number of ladies, all of whom mamested a keen interest in the play throughout. For the winners J. Findlay, a promising young player, put together the fine score of 41; W. Lyons, 19 R. Lyons, 17; F. Twining, 16 ; and J. Fagan, 14, also reached double figures. For the losers, H. Trott, 22, and T. Smith, 20, batted best. T. Smith, the veteran Mirandaite made a splendid lefthand catch, dismissing Findjay. The total scores were : Mangatawhiri Valley, first innings, 129; Miranda, first innings, 21; second innings, 89, making a grand total of 110. The visiting team were entertained in first-class style by the local men, after the match.— Correspondent.]
