The following is an account of the races won by the New Zealand-bred horses, The Possible and True Blue, at Flemington and Randwick, respectively, on New Year's Day:— ,

The Possible, 5 to 1 v. Straightfire, 10 to 1 v. Tim Swiveller, Destiny, Tellus, Burrabari, and Taupo. Turning out of the straight Steadfast and Jericho were together, in front of Burrabari, Nana, Mona, Straightfire, The Possible, and Tellus, with Tim Swiveller last. Racing along the back stretch - Tellus , moved into third place, while Straightfire, Nada, and Taupo also improved their position, and Destiny dropped back last. Taupo headed the field rounding the home turn, and showed the way into the straight from Nada, Straightfire, and The Possible. Below the distance Straightfire drew out, and soon established a lead of a couple of lengths; but Nada and The Possible came along on the outside, and quickly had him beaten. Nada then looked like winning, but Mr. Gollan's horse passed her at the half-distance, and won easily by a length and a quarter. Destiny was four lengths behind Nada, Straightfire was fourth, Tim Swiveller fifth, Burrabari sixth, and then came Taupo, Little Maid, Tellus, Steadfast, and Jericho, with Mona last. Time, 2m 51£s. Sir George, Form, and Ury forced the pace, attended by True Blue and Engineer. Sir George carried on the running right merrily until the distance was passed, when Form, Engineer aud True Blue were on even terms, but the lastnamed had a lot in hand, and eventually won rather easily by threequarters of a length from Form, who had Engineer at his quarter. Loch JLeven was a good fourth, and was attended by Fort, Ury, Memoir, Rebel Queen, and Coolalta, while Melaucthon was last. Time, lm.2Js.
