LOST ON MOUNT EGMONT.

[BY telegraph.—press association.] New Plymouth, Tuesday. A strong party under Curtis and Penn returned from searching for the missing man Southwood. A gun, leggings, and spur were found on the ridge, some 500 feet higher than the horse and coat, and plainly indicated the man's intention of ascending the peak. ISo further traces could be found. A higher gorge on both sides of the ridge was carefully fexatnined to the snowline, bub above that point the arctic severity of the weather prevented anything being done. Further search is regarded as hopeless, whilst the present cold, southerly weather continues.
