THE S.S. WANAKA.
[BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION. New Plymouth, Saturday. A heavy south-east gale was blowing last night, but no damage was done to the Wanaka wreck. The Union Company's representatives arrived last night.
In regard to the accident reported in the Herald of Saturday, the following particulars are given : —Clias. Swan, second engineer of the Wanaka, N. Wood, first mate, John Crottie, and J. Johnston were driving in from the scene of the wreck in a two horse buggy, when the animals bolted, and threw out all the occupants in Devonstreet. Mr. Swan's left leg was smashed, Mr. Wood's left knee injured, and the other two men were slightly hurt and bruised. The trap was smashed, and it is a miracle that all were not killed. The two first named were taken to the hospital, and reports from there on Saturday morning state that the injured men are getting on favourably.
