LAND FOR SETTLEMENT.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Chbistciiprch, Saturday. This afternoon a deputation of unemployed, accompanied by the Mayor and several members of Parliament, waited upon the Minister for Lands, who said he would bring in a measure next session to enable land to be acquired for settlement at once, and open up for small settlements such lands as were in the possession of the Government, and would consult with the Minister for Public Works with the view to provide employment for men out of work until the settlement scheme wrts in operation. He promised to provide free passage for representatives of any association of not less than 25 men willing to take up land for farm homesteads who might be sent to select land.
