HAWEK'S BAY PROPERTY TAX ASSESSMENTS.
[by , tbusorapu.—jer.Kss association.] Napier, Thursday. WHBN tho property tax assessor's valuations in Hawke's Bay were sent in they showed large reductions, and the Department appointed a secret committee of revisers in each district. This was the only provincial district in which such a course was adopted. The revisers largely increased tiie valuation, aud this caused a number of objections, and great interest has been taken in the sitting of the Board of Reviewers. Several attempts were made to get the names of the revisers, but Mr. Crombie, Deputy Commissioner, absolutely declined to give them up, notwithstanding the protests of objectors that they were thereby placedat a great disadvantage. Many objections were sustained and many failed. The net result has been an increase. In the Hawko's Bay County alono the assessors' valuations have been raised £296,728.
